James Robert "Bob" King, of Eufaula, passed away on August 23, 2020 at the age of 93. Bob was born on May 21, 1927 in Lincoln County, Oklahoma near the town of Meeker. His parents were Vern Laster King and Easter Ogilvie King. Bob attended many one-room schools in Lincoln County, including Shaw School and Mammoth School. He also attended one year at Eufaula when they lived with his Granddad King. He graduated from White Rock High School in 1945. With World War II raging and his brother, Wendell, already in the Navy; Bob enlisted in the Navy on June 11, 1945. He was honorably discharged on July 6, 1946 after the war was over. His rank was Seaman 1st class, with listing as a Deck hand - landing craft. Bob went to work for the Air Force at Tinker Air Force Base and worked there as an Aircraft Sheetmetal Worker until his retirement on January 25, 1983 - having worked there 36 years. Bob married Twyla Trent on April 25, 1958 at First Baptist Church in McLoud. They began their married life at Meeker, OK and lived there 36 1/2 years until they moved to Eufaula in 1994. They were blessed with sixty-two years of marriage and three children: James Edward, Robyn Kaye, and Timothy Trent. Bob was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church. He attended Sunday School regularly and was a member of the board of trustees at both Meeker and Eufaula churches. He was willing to help with any project around the church as long as he was able. Bob was well-known for being an excellent gardener, raising vegetables as well as strawberries. He enjoyed sharing his produce with others. Bob spent many hours working as a volunteer in the Eufaula Community Garden. In 2002 he was named Outstanding Volunteer for his work there. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, one unnamed and Wendell Fay King. He is survived by his wife, Twyla, and his children and their spouses: Ed and Michelle King, of Carmel, IN; Robyn and Randy Burris, of Eufaula; Tim and Julie King, of Pryor, OK- as well as his grandchildren: Chelsea Burris, Emily Burris, Serena King, and Zachary King. A private family graveside service was held at Meeker Cemetery.
