Kenneth Hammons

February 9, 1936 — May 5, 2021

Kenneth Dale Hammons was born on February 9, 1936 in Lenna, OK to Arthur and Esther Hammons. After graduating high school, Kenneth joined the Army on August 19 1954 and served two (2) years before being Honorably Discharged. Kenneth then attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK where he graduated with a teaching degree and also served as the editor of the school newspaper. Kenneth taught school one (1) year at Stidham before going to work for the Social Security Administration in McAlester as a Field Rep. He worked for the Social Security Administration for over thirty-three (33) years and achieved the title of District Supervisor. Kenneth’s main purpose in life was to serve the Lord. Kenneth started preaching while in school and continued to preach and teach at the Indianola Church of Christ for over fifty (50) years. Kenneth met Gayle Dunn at Sooner Youth Camp and on June 12, 1964 they were married in Henryetta, OK. They moved to Indianola where they lived together for over forty-nine (49) years. Kenneth and Gayle had two (2) children Kevin and Gina Hammons (Garrett). Kenneth is survived by Kevin and his wife, Cyndi and Gina and her husband, Kipton. Brother, Homer Hammons and sister, Imogene Bradley. Kenneth has six (6) grandchildren: Kyle Hammons and wife, Emily, Hannah Hammons, Ryan Hammons, Nathan Garrett, Justin Garrett and Zach Garrett. He also has three (3) great grandchildren: Noah, Lincoln and William McCoy. Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife, Gayle Hammons; father and mother, Arthur and Esther Hammons; brother, Arthur Hammons Jr.; sister, Kathleen Hammons; sister-in-law, Sheila Hammons; brother-in-law, David Bradley and niece, Rosemary Shaver.
