Charla Dean Yates

Charla Dean Yates, 78, of Canadian, Oklahoma, peacefully passed from this life on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at her home surrounded by family. Charla was born on October 19, 1947 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to William Harold and Esther (Griffin) Alexander. Charla worked many years as a public-school custodian, taking pride in keeping a clean environment for children to learn and play. Charla married Marvin William Yates on March 18, 1986 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Charla is survived by her husband Marvin of the home; three sons Joshua Yates and wife Kelly of Spencer, Ohio, Anthony Yates and wife Neang of Prattsville, Alabama, and Dakota Compton of Belview, Nebraska; two daughters Carol Harris of Canadian, Oklahoma and Cheri Stutsman of Phoenix, Arizona; one brother William Alexander Jr. and wife Edith of Douglasville, Georgia; four sisters Patricia Feenstra and husband Jimmy of Villarico, Georgia, Myra Alexander of Jacksonville, Florida, Angela Daniels of Jacksonville, Florida and Tara Hall of Newman, Georgia; thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Charla is preceded in death by her parents William and Esther Alexander; one granddaughter Carrie Yates; and two brothers Bobby Compton and Michael Alexander.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to St. Judes Children's Hospital or the Husky Halfway House at huskyhalfwayhouse.org
