January 2, 1956 — October 23, 2023

In Loving Memory of The Reverend, Major (Retired, U.S. Army), David Charles Kimmel, Ph.D. 01/02/1956 – 10/23/2023

It is with profound sadness that I announce the passing of my dear husband, David Charles Kimmel, a beloved husband, stepfather, brother, and grandfather.

Born on January 2, 1956, in Myersdale, Pennsylvania, to Richard and Sara Kimmel, David brought steadfast joy, unconditional love, and warmth into the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this Earth was one marked by his love of Christ, integrity, humility, servant leadership, and unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and loved ones.

David was a man of remarkable character, known for his kindness, calm manner, gentle spirit, and his willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He had a deep love for his family, and his devotion to his role as a husband was unwavering. A true family man, David is survived by Susan (nee French), his devoted wife, with whom he shared countless memories and built a life of love, trust, and partnership. Their enduring bond was an inspiration to all who witnessed it.

David proudly served his country for over 20 years in the U.S. Army, retiring at the rank of Major (decorated Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Expert Infantryman Badge, Air Assault Badge, Army Superior Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal). He attended the Infantry Officer Basic Course, Armor Officer Advanced Course, CAS3 Course, Command General Staff College, and the Inspector General Course. During his years of service, he demonstrated steadfast commitment and bravery. His dedication to duty and his fellow service members left an indelible mark on those who had the privilege of serving alongside him.

An accomplished scholar (Penn State, James Madison, and The University of Oklahoma), educator, and counselor, David’s dedication and tireless commitment to excellence made him a respected figure in his field, earning the admiration and respect of colleagues and peers. In his years spent directing Family Expectations (at Public Strategies), he positively impacted over 17,000 babies and their moms and dads. As an Adjunct Professor at the University of Oklahoma, he taught leadership courses that prepared students for future leadership roles, and as a Christian marriage and family counselor, he provided compassionate wisdom and counsel to many struggling families.

David formerly served as an Elder at The Rock Assembly of God, Vice President of the Carlton Landing Fire and Rescue organization, and was a former member of the Carlton Landing town counsel.

David is survived by his devoted wife, Susan, stepdaughter, Jessamy (Jason), daughter-in-law, Courtney, and grandchildren Brooke, Nathaniel (Nate), and Beau. He also leaves behind his brothers Richard (Pam), Douglass (Terri), Scott (Demiah), Toby (Nicole), stepmother, Judy and stepsister, Marny (Mike), in addition to several cousins, nieces and nephews. His death is preceded by his parents, Richard and Sarah Kimmel, niece, Sara Jane Kimmel and stepson, SSgt. Nathaniel J. Nyren (Iraqi Freedom).

A celebration of David's life will take place on Sunday, November 5, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Carlton Landing Community Church, 58 Water Street, Carlton Landing, Oklahoma. Family and friends are invited to join in remembering and honoring this exceptional man.

A full Military burial to honor his military service will take place at Arlington Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia. Date and time to be announced.

The family would like to thank the medical staff at UT Southwestern Hospital, Dallas (Lung Transplant Unit) for their expert care and unwavering support.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that you consider becoming an organ donor. This gesture would honor David’s generous spirit and make a positive impact on those waiting for an organ transplant.
