Born February 24, 1931, at St. John's Hospital, Tulsa, Elizabeth Rixleben Fisher passed quietly on May 1, 2020 at Montereau, Tulsa, surrounded by members of the family she had loved so well throughout her notable life. An honors graduate of Holdenville High School, she attended Monticello College in Illinois, then the University of Oklahoma. She completed her education @ Oklahoma A&M, where she graduated from the School of Music. Throughout her life she reveled in the creation of and enjoyment of great music Following marriage in 1951 to Roy W Fisher of Edmond, the couple moved to McIntosh County where together, they worked for decades building a successful ranching business. Later in life, “Liz”, as she was affectionately known by most, completed Pratt Institute training in interior design & established a Tulsa interiors business. Examples of her design acumen were published in Southern Living magazine, among others. Always a patron of the arts, Liz supported the Tulsa opera, ballet, & symphony companies in addition to the Philbrook & Gilcrease museums. During the years she was a Eufaula ranch wife, Liz was a working member of the Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association & its auxiliary, the Oklahoma Cowbells. She also served others through her local church, where she directed choir, through the United Methodist Women, Eufaula, through long-time affiliation with PEO, & support of the women of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. A very capable cook, Liz was never happier than when cooking for the many, large family gatherings she staged, for the church events she directed, for the numerous ranch tours hosted by Roy through the years. Liz Fisher was preceded in death by her parents, Bruno & Ella Mae Rixleben of Ada. Rix, as her father was known, was a pioneer Oklahoma geologist, who got his start working for Getty Oil in the 1920’s. She was also preceded in death by her brother Tom, by former husband Roy, and by her son, Roy Rixleben “Rix” Fisher, who worked in the family’s ranching business before his untimely passing in 2004. Liz Fisher is survived by children David Fisher & his wife Patty of Eufaula, Chris Fisher and his wife Sarah of Tulsa, Dr. Gary Fisher & his wife Lynn of Tulsa, and Anne Fisher-Vardell & her husband Steven of Checotah. Liz celebrated not only her children, but also 14 grandchildren, along with their spouses, and a growing number of great grandchildren. Last great grandchild count was twenty two. Of the many tributes which have been offered since Liz’s death, one friend has written “ ... Liz was a great encouragement to me over the years: her servant-heart & love for God and honoring Him were like few people I've known. She's one of best women I've ever known. I know the family is grieving but also rejoicing in a life well lived !” Our family matriarch will be sorely missed.
