Elwyn (George) Guinn was well loved by everyone who met him. Quotes by many were “He was a noble man, compassionate, honest, always giving and helping others”.
The nickname George was given to him by a family member, who stated that George was like our founding father and first president George Washington because he could not tell a lie.
George was raised in Oklahoma, but ended up in Las Vegas, Nevada. The first time, in his teen years, George and brother Rody hitchhiked to Nevada to live and learn the construction trade from his father.
Traveling back and forth from Oklahoma to Nevada, George ended up placing his roots in Las Vegas and raising his family there. He established Guinn Construction in 1966 and did both commercial and custom residential work. He was so liked and respected for his craftsmanship and attention to detail that George was approached by an investor to remodel some oceanfront properties in Oahu, Hawaii. That job kept him and wife Maxine in Hawaii for a few years.
Upon retiring in 2000, George and Maxine did a lot of traveling in their motorhome and on one of their journeys they came through Eufaula, Oklahoma where Maxine’s childhood home was. The house was for sale, so they purchased it. They sold their home in Las Vegas and moved to Eufaula and began the restoration and remodel of the old home that was close to 100 yrs old.
They lived in their motor home until they were able to move into their house. George started this project when he was in his late 60’s and Maxine was 70 yrs old. This dream project, no doubt, contributed to their longevity.
