Hazel Nell Burns, 83, of Eufaula, Oklahoma passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2026 in Muskogee. Hazel was born on December 3, 1942, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, the daughter of James Truman and Nellie Lee (Reese) Carter. She graduated from Braggs High School in 1960. Hazel married Jerrel Ellis in Muskogee. To this union three children were born. On April 27, 1984, Hazel married R.L. Burns at the Red Arrow Country Store. He preceded her in death in April 2015. Hazel owned and operated Red Arrow Country Store and the Brown Country Store west of Eufaula for over fifteen years. She was a member of the Eufaula Church of God.
Survivors include her son James Ellis of Eufaula, OK; daughters Carla Carr of Muskogee, OK, Kimberly Newman and husband Mickey of Russellville, AR and Melody Burnham and husband Wayne of Verdigris, OK; grandchildren Paula Broyles and husband Samuel, Wendy Williams and husband TJ, Erica Neely and husband Brandon, Mickey Newman JR. and wife Holly, Rendi Morisheta and husband Tiyoshi and Lia Boykin and husband Dante. She is also survived by 15 great grandchildren. Hazel is preceded in death by her parents, Truman and Nellie Carter; husband RL Burns; two grandchildren Steven Newman and Shea Burnham and siblings Arliss "Buck" Murphy, Floy Ruth Wright, Lewis Carter, Lloyd Carter and Floyd Carter and best friend Sammie Flowers.
