Jefferey Glenn Carter

Jeffery Glenn Carter, of Longview, Texas, passed away August 7, 2026, at the age of 66. Jeffery was born on March 22, 1960, to Faye Welch in Hobart, Oklahoma. At the age of six, he came into the care of his older brother, Audery “Butch” Carter, and his wife, Sylvia, who raised and loved him as their own in Barataria, Louisiana. Although Butch was Jeffery’s brother by birth, Jeffery grew up in their home as a son and was raised alongside their children as a sibling.  Jeffery was preceded in death by his biological mother, Faye Welch; his biological sister, Sally Hunn Stephens; and Butch and Sylvia Carter. Jeffery is survived by his sister, Andrea Egan(Milton), and brother, Andrew Carter (Patricia), with whom he was raised; his biological sister, Judy Serpas; his beloved niece and godchild, Devan Adam (Adam); nieces Brittany Guidry(Garrett) and Katelyn Carter; and nephew Brendon Carter (LA). He is also survived by his great-nieces and great-nephews, Tony Jude Brewer, Jr., Todd Brewer, Cambri Brewer, DylanThomas, Oliver Guidry, Elliot Carter, and his soon-to-be-born great-niece, Mylah Guidry.

Jeffery also leaves behind a host of cousins in Louisiana, Mississippi and Oklahoma, along with extended family, friends, and coworkers, who will miss him dearly. Jeffery made his home in Longview, Texas, and worked for Dodson Trucking. He was a hard working man with a rough and rugged exterior, but those who truly knew Jeffery knew the teddy bear underneath. He could be stubborn, set in his ways, and yes, sometimes a little cranky—but beneath that tough exterior was an incredibly caring and generous soul. Jeffery was the kind of man who would give to someone else even when he didn't have much to give himself. That tender side of Jeffery was perhaps evident in the love he had for his animals - his four dogs and his cat were an important part of his life and his family. They were loved and spoiled, and they brought companionship and happiness to his life. Jeffery was unapologetically himself. He loved in his own way, cared more deeply than he sometimes showed, but left an impression on the people fortunate enough to know the softer side of him. He was rough around the edges, tender hearted underneath, and generous to a fault. Jeffery's family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to his entire Dodson Trucking family for the friendship, kindness, and support they gave him throughout the years. A very special thank you is extended to his dear friend Vanita, whose friendship and care meant so much to him—and now to his family—than words can adequately express. Jeffery's passing leaves an emptiness in the lives of those who loved him, but he leaves behind memories of a man who was uniquely Jeffery—stubborn and strong-willed, rough around the edges, tenderhearted underneath, and always willing to give what he had to someone who needed it. Jeffery will be cremated, and his family has chosen to honor and remember him privately. No formal services will be held. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, friends, coworkers, and all whose lives were touched by his generous heart.
