Joy Scoggins, 83, of Eufaula Oklahoma passed away on August 3, 2024 in Broken Arrow OK. She was born October 28 1940 in Castine, Maine the daughter of Phillip Cotton and Anna Kit Tapley. She attended school in Bar Harbor, ME. She then went to cosmetology school. She worked a few years as a cosmetologist. She then worked for McDonald Douglas in California. This is where she met Marvin Scoggins on a blind date. Joy married Marvin on July 12, 1963 in Plattsburgh, NY at the Air Force Base Chapel. They were happily married 54 years. Joy never forgot about Maine she stayed invested in the states past time. Joy was creative, she enjoyed sewing, quilting, making dolls, painting, cooking for her family and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include three sons; Steve Scoggins and wife Darlene of Pottsville, AR.; Jim Scoggins wife Meghan of Houston TX.; John Scoggins and wife Carrie of Medford, OR; three daughters Shelia Scoggins Wells and husband Eric of Owasso, OK; Sheri Scoggins of Tulsa, OK; and Stacy Scoggins of Eufaula, OK; brother Don Cotton of Huntington Beach, CA; fourteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Joy is preceded in death by her husband Marvin, father Phillip Cotton, mother Anna Tapley, and one sister, Pat Boudreau.
She was an original member of the Ladies' Auxiliary Eufaula VFW Post #8798. She was active volunteering through the years with her kid's school activities. She was a DeMolay and Rainbow mom and spent much time traveling with the kids.
She never forgot Maine and was always interested in it's history.
