We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Randy Bridges, a cherished pillar of the Eufaula community, who left us too soon. Known for his boundless generosity and kindness, Randy dedicated his life to bringing joy and support to those around him.
Despite his struggles with chronic pain, he remained a beacon of strength and love. Randy owned B&F furniture for 45 years where he loved serving the Eufaula Community. His commitment to his family was unparalleled; his daughter, son, and four grandsons were the center of his universe.
Randy was a lifelong Ironhead. Randy started his basketball career at Checotah, moving to Eufaula his freshman year. He would help lead the Ironheads to back to back trips to the state tournament in the 70-71, 71-72 seasons. In addition, he was a three year starter for the Ironhead football team, enjoying most punt returns his sophomore year. He loved water skiing and skied professionally for some time. He loved supporting the Ironheads, watching his son play in the state football semi finals in 2000 and his grandsons as late as last year.
Along with his father Max, Randy helped start a number of community events. He was one of the founding members of the annual Eufaula fireworks show, lighting up the sky and the hearts of many for several years. He organized a community Thanksgiving dinner, open to all, not for glory, but because he loved knowing everyone got a good meal. He was Chamber president when Eufaula began its annual Whole Hawg days. He was one of the first to start the tradition of lighting fireworks before the Ironhead football games. These events are small testaments to his spirit of giving and community building.
Randy loved his Lord and savior Jesus Christ. He loved listening to his mother, Marguerite Schmitt, play the piano for a variety of churches. He believed in love and forgiveness even when others didn’t understand.
His legacy of compassion and community service will continue to inspire us all. Randy will be profoundly missed, but his warmth and generosity will forever remain in our hearts.
Survivors include: son, Brendon Bridges and wife, Erin of Eufaula; daughter, Whitlea Loftis and husband, Chris of Ozark, MO; sister, Teresa Butler and husband John of Eufaula; sister, Joanna Taylor of Okarche, OK; grandsons Maddox, Max Joseph and Mavrix Bridges of Eufaula and grandson, Everett Loftis of Ozark, MO. Nephew, Kyle Coleman of Frisco, TX; niece and nephew Jaycee and Jacob Taylor of Okarche, OK. His best friend Susie Stretch of Eufaula. Also, several cousins and many close friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Max Bridges and Marguerite Bridges Schmitt.
Instead of sending flowers, the family encourages you to honor Randy’s generous spirit by giving a gift to someone in need or performing an act of kindness. Let’s keep Randy’s tradition of giving alive by paying it forward.
