Rickey Shane Duncan

Our hearts are broken by the sudden and unexpected passing of Shane Duncan on September 28th, at the age of 48, from a hypoglycemic coma.

As a young boy, Shane loved playing army & going to work with his grandpa at Camp Gruber, hunting & fishing and he had a brilliant, curious mind and a tender heart. He was saved & baptized at Lindsey Chapel Baptist Church, in 1991. Shane graduated from Eufaula High School in 1996 & went to work at Haley’s gas station, then the pipeline, and later working with his dad laying rock, tree trimming & construction.

In his later years, Shane faced a relentless and powerful opponent: drug addiction. Despite the heavy burdens he carried, he fought with incredible courage. He wanted to heal, and fought hard to find his way back to the light. Addiction is a cruel disease that does not define the beauty of his soul, the depth of his love, or the goodness of his character. We choose to remember Shane not by his hardest struggles, but by the warmth, love, and brilliance he shared with us during his time here.

While struggling with drug addiction, Shane successfully completed drug rehab in 2023. After completing rehab, Shane attended classes and worked for the drug rehab in Tucson, sharing his testimony to other addicts in hopes of helping them. Shane also lead Native American Church services.

Shane loved going to Pow wows, doing bead work, making knives with antler handles, dream catchers and other native crafts. His biggest love was being grandpa to Kooper and Dawson, uncle to 14 nieces & nephews and 1 great nephew. Taking them fishing, teaching them to drive the golf cart, singing made up songs and telling them all kinds of stories. He loved chewing on their ears and acting like a big kid himself, just ask Tayt.

He is survived by his loving grandmother Bonnie Barnett; parents Julie & Johnny Duncan; son Kenneth & Autumn Duncan; siblings, Shanna & Eric Enlow, Justina & Greg Redwine, Maekisha & Zach Todd, & Jon-Ovean & Haley Duncan, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who loved him fiercely. He was preceded in death by his Grandfather Franklin O. Barnett & Grandparents Johnnie & Freeman Duncan; aunts & uncles Ovean Barnett, Jimmy (Peewee)Duncan, Joan & Elmer Degraffenreid, Betty & Denver Degraffenreid, Jeanette & John Wheeler, Janet & Perry Moore and Juanita Moore; & nephew Caleb Enlow.
