Sally Burns, age 52, of Checotah, Oklahoma, passed away on August 21, 2025, at her home. She was born on August 3, 1973, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, to Michael Eugene and Deborah Lynn (Welch) Burns.

Sally received her early education at Dixie Elementary and Cooper McClain, before attending Houston Homan Jr. High. She graduated from Eufaula High School in 1991, where she was an active member of the school band, serving as drum major. Additionally, Sally was a proud member of the Mustangers Drill Team, sharing her passion for horses and riding with her teammates.

In pursuit of her commitment to caring for others, Sally graduated from Eastern Oklahoma State College in 1994 with a nursing degree and successfully passed the Registered Nurse Board examination in the same year. Throughout her nursing career, she worked in various settings including hospitals, clinics, and home health, bringing compassion and dedication to her role.

Sally’s greatest joy was her family, especially her cherished children and grandchildren. She leaves behind her mother, Deborah Vermillion; her son, Cody Lee Whitley; her daughter, Kady Lynn Anderson and husband Austin; her sister, Sara Hance and husband Gene of Scipio; and one grandchild, Josey Mar.

Sally is preceded in death by her father, Michael Eugene Burns; her bonus father, Robert Lee Vermillion; and her beloved grandparents, Bullet and Evelyn Burns, and Bud and Frances Welch.

She will be remembered for her warm spirit, her love for her family, and her commitment to her profession. Sally’s legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
