William Wayne “Bill” Chaney, 68, of Eufaula, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2026, in McAlester, Oklahoma.
Bill was born on October 14, 1957, in Ardmore, Oklahoma, to Floyd Ned Chaney and Doris Ieva (McMillon) Chaney, who preceded him in death.
Bill was a good man, he was steady, dependable, and well-liked by everyone who knew him. He truly never met a stranger and had an easy way of talking to people that made them feel comfortable right away. Whether you knew him for years or just met him, you felt like you were in good company.
He was a devoted husband to Diana, and their life together was built on love, loyalty, and years of shared memories. They enjoyed camping together and spending as much time with their family as possible, making memories that will be carried on. He was a proud father to his son, Austin, and his daughter, Lacey. He was a deeply loved Papa; his grandchildren meant the world to him. He took great joy in spending time and poking fun, and they loved it just as much. Being their Papa was something he treasured.
Bill was fun-loving and had a sense of humor that showed up in the way he teased and joked with people. It was always done in a kind way, and was just a part of who he was, someone who liked to make others smile.
He also loved to fish and spent many good days on the water doing something he truly enjoyed. He was chairman of the WUCO Fishing Club and was known by many as the “Fish Whisperer,” a nickname that fit him well. Some of his best times were spent fishing with his brother Bob, making memories together out on the water. He was also an unwavering Dallas Cowboys fan, no matter how many losses (and there were plenty), he was still their biggest fan. He enjoyed keeping up with “the Boys” alongside his brother and his son, and would make a call every Sunday during Football season and say “Got your blue face paint on?!”.
Bill spent many years working in real estate with Campbell Due Real Estate, where he met and built relationships with people all across the community. It was work that suited him well, giving him the chance to connect with others and help them along the way. He was a devoted member of his community, giving his time where it was needed and supporting local businesses as a regular and familiar face. He showed his commitment to the place and people around him.
Throughout his life, Bill was known for his strong work ethic, his faith, and the way he cared for his family and friends. He leaves behind a legacy of being a man people could count on, a friend to many, and someone who was truly loved.
Bill is survived by his wife, Diana; his son, William Austin Chaney and wife Lacie; his daughter, Lacey Treat and husband Joe; his brother, Robert Chaney and wife Janet; and his five grandchildren, Lily, Wade, Lucas, Lawson, and Rowan.
He will be missed by all who knew him.
So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy. John 16:22
